In a campaign rally held in GA. Villingili last night, the PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, announced his plans for the development of an International Airport in the island.

Speaking to a gathered audience, Muizzu emphasised his commitment to the growth of the Southern region, highlighting the various opportunities that he believes could be harnessed for the betterment of Villingili.

Central to his vision is the proposal to dredge the land, an ambitious undertaking that would pave the way for the establishment of an international airport.

This new airport, he stated, would not only offer training facilities but also generate a substantial number of employment opportunities, with a focus on providing high-quality services.

Muizzu projected that the introduction of the international airport could significantly boost tourism in the province, potentially leading to the creation of an additional 10,000 beds.

He further explained that the existing Kooddoo airport would transition into a training airport, with the primary airport situated in Villingili.

Additionally, Muizzu outlined plans for an integrated tourism project within the dredged area. The allocated land would serve various purposes, including housing and economic activities.

Furthermore, provisions have been made to accommodate the growing population through a plan for land allocation.

In his speech, Muizzu also highlighted his commitment to the economic sector, citing the doubling of cold storage capacity at the MIFCO fish factory in Kooddoo.

Beyond this, he pledged to enhance the infrastructure of Villingili Hospital and establish a university campus on the island.
