Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the People’s National Congress’ (PNC) presidential candidate, has announced his commitment to reduce the waste disposal fees charged by WAMCO, citing their current rates as excessively burdensome for the public.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) booth, Muizzu expressed his concern over the rising costs imposed by WAMCO, which he believes have significantly inconvenienced the residents of the city.
He stressed that these fees are putting a strain on city dwellers, and small and medium-sized enterprises are at risk of financial instability due to the increased expenses.
Muizzu stated, “I want to assure the public that, should they place their trust in me and vote for me in the upcoming Saturday’s election, I am committed to reducing the unaffordable prices charged by WAMCO.”
Muizzu argued that the escalating prices were not a result of WAMCO lack of profitability but rather their mismanagement. He believes that with proper restructuring and capable leadership, WAMCO could operate profitably without resorting to high fees for their services.
He further emphasised that the current high pricing model employed by WAMCO has compromised the quality of service they provide. This, in turn, has garnered concerns from both traders and the Male’ City Council, who share the public’s apprehension about the recent changes in pricing.
