The incoming government of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans to limit the number of political employees to 700, as the new administration prepares to take office on November 17.
This decision was conveyed by Mohamed Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel, the interim spokesperson for President-elect Muizzu.
Firuzul clarified that this figure encompasses administrative staff appointments made within the President’s Office, various ministries, and the official residences of both the president and vice president.
Comparing this move to the outgoing government, the state budget reports that the incumbent administration currently accommodates 1,062 political positions.
This new limit of 700 is also fewer than the 808 political positions claimed by Mabrook Abdul Azeez, the former spokesperson of President Abdulla Yameen’s government.
