President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Türkiye and Dubai, as the President’s Office reported, incurred a state expenditure of MVR 3.4 million. This trip marked Muizzu’s first out of state visit since assuming office.
The President, accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials also visited Dubai last month to take part in The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC.
As released by the President’s Office, the breakdown of expenses indicates that most of the funds, amounting to MVR 2.4 million, were allocated for air travel: the remaining MVR 1 million covered accommodation, dinner, and domestic travel during the visits.
The Türkiye government provided hospitality for the 28-member delegation. However, in Dubai, arrangements made by the United Arab Emirates government extended to only ten members of the delegation. The state incurred expenses of MVR 775,000 for accommodation, food, and domestic travel during the Dubai visit.
Muizzu, in line with his commitment to transparency, has pledged to disclose the expenses associated with his official visits abroad. These details are the first set of information made public under this commitment.
