MV+ News Desk | April 5, 2025

The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced water and sewerage infrastructure projects in nine islands across the Maldives, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure access to clean water and safe sewerage services nationwide.

Projects are currently underway in Miladhoo and Magoodhoo of Noonu Atoll, Noomaraa and Bilehfahi of Shaviyani Atoll, Kudarikilu of Baa Atoll, Fenfushi of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Dhiyamigili and Madifushi of Thaa Atoll. Equipment and excavators have been dispatched to these islands, with site clearance for Reverse Osmosis (RO) buildings already in progress.

In several islands, including Noomaraa, Bilehfahi and Miladhoo, survey work for household water connections and installation of water meters has begun. Equipment required to resume the previously halted project in Fenfushi has also been delivered.

MWSC has decentralised its operations with the establishment of two new water production centres in Male’, in addition to its main facility in the Greater Male’ Region. The company continues to prioritise water security as one of its core objectives.

The government has pledged to resolve delays affecting water and sewerage development efforts and to ensure the timely completion of all projects under full state oversight.
