Mohamed Nasheed, former Maldivian president and founder of the Democrats, met with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson Fayyaz Ismail on Monday, in a move seen as part of early preparations for the 2028 presidential elections.
Fayyaz, writing on X, said he had been invited for lunch by Nasheed and other members of the Democrats. “We engaged in extensive discussions over the changes to the political landscape and upcoming works,” he said.

He added, “Putting this country back on the right track requires collaborative work by everyone who advocate for reform.”
While no formal declarations were made, the meeting has drawn attention across the political spectrum, as both leaders are believed to be exploring possible strategies and partnerships ahead of the next presidential race.
