Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who announced an extended hiatus from politics, has relocated to Accra, Ghana, as his residence for the foreseeable future, revealing his move through a social media announcement yesterday.

In his post on X platform, Nasheed revealed that he has moved to Accra to undertake the role of Secretary-General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF). Notably, the CVF’s secretariat is headquartered in Ghana. Nasheed stated his intention to reside in Accra for the foreseeable future.

Having previously served as both President and Speaker of the Parliament, Nasheed announced his temporary withdrawal from political engagements last month. One contributing factor to this decision is his acceptance of the position of Secretary-General for the CVF, which he is set to assume this month.

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is an international partnership of countries that are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. It was established in 2009 during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen.

The forum serves as a platform for vulnerable countries to coordinate their efforts in addressing climate change and advocating for greater action from the international community.
