The athlete expressed shock and dismay at the incident, highlighting that her morning jog along this familiar route, typically taken just after Fajr prayers, had never before resulted in such a traumatic encounter. Describing the assailants as dressed casually in jeans and t-shirts, Maayan lamented her inability to identify them as they concealed their faces behind helmets.

Recounting the ordeal, she revealed how the assailants approached her from behind, seizing her by the throat as she attempted to cross the street. Overwhelmed with shock, she collapsed, leaving her vulnerable to the theft of her necklace, her sole possession during the jog.

Despite her distress, she commended the intervention of a foreigner who responded to her cries for help, albeit unsuccessfully in apprehending the assailants who swiftly fled the scene on their motorcycle.

Following the incident, she reported the matter to the Hulhumale’ Police Station, though she harbored little hope of recovering her stolen necklace.

However, she stressed the significance of reporting such incidents, particularly as assaults in Hulhumale’ are seemingly on the rise, even during daylight hours, raising concerns about the area’s safety.

When reached out to Maldives Police Service for a comment, they stated that the case was filed today at 6:20AM, and police are currently investigating the incident.
