The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Institute of Education, has conducted training sessions for teachers involved in delivering the nationalism curriculum. Principals, teachers, and focal points participated in these sessions, receiving an overview of the subject’s content, its structure within the curriculum, and effective teaching methodologies.

According to the Education Ministry, the nationalism subject is strategically divided into key stages, with elements of nationalism also integrated into other subjects across the curriculum. The ministry further outlined its ambition to expand the teaching of nationalism to all grades, with plans to officially incorporate it into the curriculum in the upcoming academic year.

The initiative reflects a concerted effort by the government to nurture a generation proud of their national identity and heritage. However, the introduction of nationalism as a formal subject raises questions about the potential impact on students’ perspectives and the broader educational landscape in the Maldives.
