President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ismail Naveen as the new Commissioner of Police. The official ceremony to present the insignia of office took place this afternoon at the President’s Office.

Before assuming the role of Acting Commissioner of Police on 26 April, Naveen served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police. He stepped into the acting role following the resignation of former Commissioner Ali Shujau, who left office amid public criticism of the police’s handling of a case in which a 21-year-old woman fell from the ninth floor of a building onto a warehouse roof on 18 April.

Commissioner Naveen holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Northumbria, England.
