Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate representing the Maldives National Party (MNP), has unveiled a plan that centres on a reduction in Hiya flat rentals to MVR 4,000, alongside the implementation of stretcher lifts within the residential complexes.

Speaking at a campaign event held in Hulhumale’ Phase II, Nazim revealed that surveys have established MVR 4,000 as the most viable rental rate for Hiya flats, addressing concerns while acknowledging the impracticality of a complete waiver of rent. The existing rent stands at MVR 8,000, with tenants currently paying this amount.

In addition to rental reform, Nazim acknowledged the pressing issue of elevator delays raised by the residents. He vowed to oversee the installation of enhanced elevator systems to alleviate the concerns of the tenants. Furthermore, he promised to introduce stretcher lifts in each building, emphasising the norm of patient-friendly lifts in residential structures across various nations.

He also outlined  development plans for Hulhumale’ Phase II, encompassing the construction of a structural parking facility and a state-of-the-art convention centre. Notably, he pledged to establish a theme park within the locality, reiterating his earlier initiative to provide the initial 100 units of electricity and 3,000 litres of water from household bills free of charge.
