NDMA Extends Assistance to 70 Flood-Affected Households in Male’ City

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced assistance to 70 households, in response to the widespread flooding that occurred in Male’ city last year.
The damages incurred on these households were estimated to be over MVR 1 million, prompting the NDMA’s intervention.
According to a statement, the NDMA will be disbursing a total of MVR 457,242 as assistance to the affected households. This allocation includes MVR 248,381 designated as compensation for damage to the buildings of 34 households and MVR 208,861.60, constituting 20% of the total compensation, for damage to essential occupations in 65 households.
The agency, in its communication, also shared some key details regarding their response to the day’s rain-related incidents. These include the number of reported calls due to flooding, the initial response from households, temporary shelter provision for 42 individuals from eight houses, allocation of 10,100 sandbags, and an expenditure of MVR 179,275 on temporary shelter and equipment during the initial response.
The heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across Male’ city, Hulhumale’, and Hulhule’. Notably, Hulhule’ recorded the heaviest rainfall ever at 179.7 mm.
