The fire originated in the third apartment on the second floor of the China Flat residential building, which was occupied by 11 foreign nationals. Due to the extent of the smoke, water, and fire damage, residents from four apartments were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Images shared by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) show significant damage to household items, including burnt furniture. Footage circulating on social media shows flames pouring through the windows during the peak of the blaze.
Authorities confirmed that the fire has been fully extinguished, and no injuries have been reported.
Local residents have raised concerns about the safety of the building, claiming this is the third time it has caught fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
