The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has issued a public appeal nearly a week after the Henveiru rooftop incident, urging people to stop sharing photos and videos of the 21-year-old victim — despite graphic content already being widely circulated by both netizens and the Police.
The Commission issued its statement nearly a week after the incident, during which graphic images and footage of the victim had already been widely circulated on social media and released by the Police.
The incident, which took place last Friday, is reported to have followed a drug-related gathering involving individuals allegedly connected to government officials. In its statement released this afternoon, HRCM called on the Maldives Police Service to ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation, free from external influence.

HRCM also confirmed that it is monitoring how authorities are handling the case. The Commission stated it will take into account public concerns regarding the potential influence of politically connected individuals on the investigation.
