The Housing Ministry has begun a new land allocation draw for recipients from Gulhifalhu under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, following revisions to the island’s land use plan.
The draw commenced yesterday at 14:30 at Usfasgandu and is being conducted by ministry staff.
As the draw progresses, land plot recipients are updated in real time through the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ portal and receive SMS notifications. Participants have the option to attend in person or appoint a proxy to represent them. Proxies must provide a no-objection letter from the landowner alongside a copy of their national ID card.
The revised land use plan for Gulhifalhu, published on 15 May, has been subject to scrutiny due to the addition of 90 new land plots. Lawyer Shaheem Mohamed raised allegations of corruption relating to the increase during an appearance on SSTV’s ‘Baaru Hathareh’ programme.
The government implemented significant changes to the plan to accelerate the distribution of land plots from the island. Reclamation of Gulhifalhu began under former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, with 150 hectares of land reclaimed by April during the current administration. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to reclaim a further 85 hectares of land.
