A newly constructed mosque in Haa Alif Atoll Ihavandhoo was officially inaugurated yesterday, according to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
In a press release, the Ministry said Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed attended the ceremony as chief guest and formally declared the mosque open. He later led the Maghrib prayer, marking the start of congregational worship at the new facility.
The single-storey mosque can accommodate up to 200 worshippers. A private donor fully funded the construction, the Ministry stated.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs described the completion of the mosque as a significant addition to the island’s religious infrastructure and said it would provide continued spiritual benefit to the community.
The inauguration forms part of the Ministry’s plan to open eight mosques ahead of the upcoming month of Ramadan. The Ministry said several mosques have already been inaugurated under the initiative, with further openings scheduled in the coming weeks.
