New UN Resident Coordinator Hao Zhang Meets Foreign Minister Khaleel Following Credential Ceremony

The newly appointed United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, Mr Hao Zhang, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, on Saturday, following the formal presentation of his credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khaleel extended his congratulations to Mr Zhang on assuming his new role and expressed confidence in his leadership. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to deepening its cooperation with the UN and acknowledged the technical assistance and capacity-building support provided by various UN agencies, funds, and programmes.

Mr Zhang, in turn, reiterated the UN’s continued support for the Maldives’ development and conveyed his intention to work closely with national stakeholders to ensure that the organisation’s work remains in line with the country’s priorities and aspirations.

Both sides also noted the importance of the year 2025, which will mark the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ membership in the United Nations and 80 years since the signing of the UN Charter.
