President’s Chief Office Spokesperson Mohamed Shaheeb has revealed that the government has not yet formally requested the cessation of operations involving helicopters and Dornier aircraft by Indian troops in the Maldives, in a press conference held at the President’s Office yesterday.
In a press conference, concerns were raised regarding the fulfilment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to withdraw Indian troops from Maldivian territory.
During the press conference, questioned whether the government had taken any steps to halt the operations of the mentioned aircraft. Shaheeb responded by stating that no such request had been made at this point.
The government initially announced the presence of 77 Indian military personnel in the Maldives, but Muizzu later admitted uncertainties regarding the exact figure. The latest update from the President’s Office indicates that there are now 89 Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives.
The government, however, has not provided details about the measures taken to fulfil Muizzu’s key pledge of removing Indian troops from Maldivian territory.
