During a press conference at the parliamentary office addressing concerns over the delay in the no-confidence motion against the Speaker, Aslam stated that the prosecution group has not yet made a definitive decision. Nevertheless, he emphasised the lack of any inclination within the prosecution group to impede the president-elect’s swearing-in ceremony.
However, he highlighted that the MDP parliamentary group stands firm in its stance: they will not recognize the oath taken by the President-elect in a session held without addressing the no-confidence motion against the Speaker Nasheed, nor will they approve the cabinet sent to Parliament.
In the event that the MDP opts not to participate in the swearing-in ceremony or chooses to boycott it, the legal threshold required to convene a parliamentary session will still be met.
The anticipated no-confidence motion against the Speaker, initially slated for the past Sunday, faced delays due to the absence of Vice-Speaker Eva Abdullah, leading to its inclusion on the agenda the following Monday. However, the session was adjourned as Eva was on leave.
