MP for North Galohu, Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), called on the Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development to ensure the student loan of a Maldivian student is disbursed.
In a letter addressed to Minister Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, the MP stated that the student, whose identity has been redacted, applied for loan disbursement on October 30, 2025, and was assured by ministry staff that the funds would be released within two to three weeks. He said the ministry failed to follow through within the stated timeframe.
Posting the letter on X, MP Kudu said his letter, addressed to the minister on December 21, has not yet received an answer.

“The ministry is showing an unprecedented amount of negligence. This inability of the ministry puts the student at risk of losing their chance at university. This letter went unanswered,” he said on X while posting the letter.
According to the letter, the ministry did not formally respond to the student throughout November and only replied on December 7, after repeated calls, to request additional documentation. The student is required to settle tuition fees by December 31, with international payments taking three to five days to process.
“It is unacceptable that a Maldivian student’s future may be obstructed due to the negligent nature in which the ministry is being operated,” he said.
MP Kudu attached a timeline of correspondence showing the loan disbursement form was submitted on October 30, with subsequent document requests and agreement amendments completed by December 17. He noted that no response has been received since and urged the ministry to address the matter immediately.
