NSPA spent MVR 47 million on spectacles in four months

The National Social Protection Agency has spent MVR 47 million on spectacles within four months following the increase of Aasandha’s biannual eyeglass subsidy to MVR 2,000.

According to agency data, private providers issued spectacles to 17,117 people between June and October at a cost of MVR 32.7 million. During the same period, government hospitals supplied glasses to 7,382 individuals, amounting to MVR 14.8 million in expenditure.

Government hospitals offer treatment for a range of eye conditions, but the production of spectacles is a newly introduced service that was previously available only through private clinics.

The revised subsidy has eased out-of-pocket expenses for patients, making vision correction more accessible for thousands of people across the country.
