The official logo commemorating the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives has been unveiled.
It was first revealed during the 8:00 pm news bulletin by PSM News. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage opened submissions for a commemorative logo to be used on official state documents and across various platforms throughout the year.
According to the Ministry, the design criteria required the logo to symbolise elements such as Islam, the Maldivian language, culture, heritage, national identity, and the country’s independence. It also called for the use of colours that represent the Maldives.
The Ministry received around 30 submissions in response to the open call. A special judging committee was formed to evaluate the entries. The assessment process took place over two stages: an initial screening to verify that the designs met the specified requirements, followed by a second phase evaluating how well each design fulfilled those criteria.
The judging panel comprised Kashima Ahmed Shakir, Mohamed Abdul Gadir, Mohamed Shahruzziyad, and Fares Mohamed Amir. The winning logo was created by Faruhad Ibrahim.
The Ministry stated that the evaluation process took three days to complete. As part of the celebrations, the official countdown to Independence Day will be launched by PSM at 12:00 am on 27 June.
