In response to the current circumstances, the ECM has opted not to establish polling stations in certain locations, including resorts, industrial establishments, and overseas areas, due to the registered voter count falling below the required threshold. As a result, the ECM has urged those affected to complete their registrations at the designated ballot box locations.
The re-registration window will remain open until 04:00 pm on the 13th and 14th of this month.
Among the locations that did not achieve the required registration numbers for polling stations are 18 resorts, Thilafushi, and four overseas venues. The overseas polling stations will not be established in New Delhi, Singapore, Thailand, and Tokyo.
The ECM has outlined that only individuals who had registered to vote at the now-cancelled polling station locations will be eligible to transfer their registration to a new venue.
Applications for registration can be conveniently submitted online via the ECM’s re-registration portal or in person at council offices in all residential areas except Male’, and council offices. In the Male’ city, applications can be submitted at the Election Center (Dharubaarge). The re-registration forms will be made available on the ECM’s official website and at council offices.
For individuals residing abroad, the ECM has arranged for the issuance and acceptance of forms at Sri Lankan consulate offices, high commissions, and embassies, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm local time each morning.
