Over 1,100 Road Accidents Reported in Malé and Sinamalé Bridge This Year

The Maldives Police Service has reported that over 1,100 road accidents occurred in Malé City and on the Sinamalé Bridge during the first six months of 2025, resulting in injuries to more than 120 individuals.
According to police statistics released, a total of 1,101 accidents were recorded between 1 January and 30 June. Of these, 911 incidents took place within Malé City, while 190 occurred on the Sinamalé Bridge and surrounding highway network.

A total of 121 individuals sustained injuries in these incidents, with 61 reported to have been seriously injured. The number of damaged vehicles reached 1,107 over the six-month period.
The data further revealed that 68 percent of the accidents, amounting to 745 cases, occurred during daylight hours, while the remaining 356 took place at night.
Collisions involving motorcycles and cars were the most common types of incidents. Police data shows that 295 accidents involved vehicles, while 267 were motorcycle-related.
