Over 111,000 Tuna Cases Distributed as Ramadan Gift, Costing MVR 81 Million

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that 111,231 cases of canned tuna distributed by the government as a Ramadan gift have been collected so far, with the total expenditure for the initiative amounting to MVR 81 million.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision to provide tuna cases to Maldivian citizens last November during a ceremony marking his administration’s one-year anniversary. The Finance Ministry stated that the distribution was carried out in accordance with this decision.

Each tuna case, priced at MVR 730, contained 48 cans. The total cost incurred for the distribution was MVR 81,198,630.

In the previous Ramadan, the government provided discounts on utility bills and distributed 1.6 million kilogrammes of food staples to 82,000 households.
