Over 2,000 Applications Received for Land and Flats in 48 Hours

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has reported a surge in applications, with more than 2,000 individuals seeking land and flats as part of the second phase of the government’s Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya Schemes.

The application window for land and flat allocations under the second phase of these housing schemes officially opened on last Sunday until Tuesday, October 24 at 15:00 hrs, drawing substantial interest from the public.

As of the latest update, a total of 2,446 applications have been received by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure. Among these applicants, 1,399 have expressed their interest in acquiring land, while 1,047 have applied for flats.

In the upcoming phase of the government’s housing initiative, lands and flats will be allocated in the Northern Thilafalhu region and Hulhumale’.

The Planning Ministry has outlined plans to dredge an extensive area, amounting to 215 hectares, for housing purposes, with a total allocation of 5.5 million acres. The minimum size for allocated land plots has been set at 1,250 acres.

Applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria, including Maldivian citizenship and a minimum age requirement of 18 years. Additionally, individuals who currently hold land under the Gedhoruveriya Scheme or the Veshi Fahi Male’ Programme are not eligible to apply.

Furthermore, long-time residents of the Male’ city, with a minimum of 20 years of residence, and those who have been registered for the same duration, are also eligible to submit applications for land and flats.
