Ismail Habeeb, Vice Chairman of the ECM, reported that on the opening day of re-registration, 9,206 individuals submitted their forms. Notably, on the first day, 7,267 applications were made online.
During the second day of the re-registration period, 16,287 people completed the necessary paperwork, with 11,082 opting for the online submission method.

In total, 25,493 re-registration forms were submitted over the course of two days. As of now, 10,271 individuals have successfully completed the re-registration process. However, 1,546 forms have been rejected due to incomplete information.
Habeeb emphasised that online submissions are currently pending verification and processing.
It’s essential to note that individuals who fail to submit their re-registration forms by 4:00 pm today may miss the opportunity to participate in the second round of the presidential election.
In the upcoming second round of the election, a total of 282,803 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots. Among them, 408 are young adults who will attain voting age as of September.
It is highly questionable that 25000 people would have re-registered in just 2 days for the upcoming second round of the Presidential Election. This must be seriously looked into by all political parties, international monitors, observers and other concerned bodies.— Dr Mohamed Muizzu (@MMuizzu) September 17, 2023
The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 30, following the absence of any candidate securing 50% of the votes during the initial round.
The two candidates who have advanced to the second round are Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, representing the opposition People’s National Congress (PNC), and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
