The Homeland Ministry has announced that more than 27,000 expatriates who have yet to complete their biometric registration will face deportation if they fail to comply within the next month.

According to data released by the ministry, 3,942 individuals have registered in the Expat system as employers, while biometric registration remains incomplete for 27,723 expatriates. The deadline for submission has now been extended to 15 November.

The ministry stated that biometric data must be submitted at the Job Centre located in the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) building, as previously arranged. Expatriates who fail to complete their registration through the Expat online system without valid justification will face deportation under the Immigration Act.

The biometric registration initiative began as part of “Operation Kurangi,” launched in May last year. On 24 September, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that biometric data had been collected from 178,982 expatriates. Since then, immigration and police authorities have been conducting a nationwide operation to identify and remove irregular expatriates.

The government has pledged to resolve the issue of illegal immigration within the first three years of its term. Authorities have reiterated that no leniency will be extended to those entering or working in the country without proper authorisation.
