The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that over 400 vehicles have been removed as part of the ongoing ‘decongestion programme’ aimed at addressing traffic issues in the Greater Malé Area

The vehicles, which included 378 two-wheelers, 40 four-wheelers, and 28 bicycles, were disposed of after remaining unclaimed beyond the specified reclamation period.

Police revealed that the impounded vehicles were seized for a range of offences, including illegal driving and other traffic violations.

According to the Maldives Police Service, vehicle owners are given a set period to reclaim their property by submitting the necessary documentation. Failure to do so allows the authorities to proceed with destruction.
