The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) reported today that while 42,867 people applied for re-registration during the first round, the numbers swelled to over 47,000 for the second round of Presidential Election 2023.

ECM also revealed that out of those 47,000 forms, more than 19,000 of these re-registration forms have been successfully validated as of yesterday.

ECM is currently focused on verifying over 27,000 re-registration forms. Once ECM confirms the validity of these forms, ECM will promptly release the list in the Government Gazette, ECM website, and also shared directly with the concerned candidates and their respective parties.

It has been observed that the two main political parties, to which the leading presidential candidates are linked, have submitted the highest number of re-registration forms.

Additionally, there have been instances where individuals who initially applied for online re-registration have resubmitted physical forms due to pending status issues.
