The ministry stated that four basic mariculture training programmes have been held during this period, with 53 individuals successfully completing the courses to date. The programme is delivered by the Maldives Marine Research Institute and is designed to build expertise in sustainable marine aquaculture.

Participants receive lessons on aquaculture systems and breeding techniques for four key species: groupers, sea cucumbers, Maldive anemone fish, and nacre. Officials said the initiative aims to develop the country’s mariculture sector, create new income and employment opportunities in the atolls, and support broader efforts to diversify the Maldivian economy.
