Over 50 Road Accidents Reported In Malé And Sinamalé Bridge Last Week

Police have reported that a total of 54 road accidents were recorded in Malé and on the Sinamalé Bridge last week, resulting in injuries to eight people.

Most cases involved motorcycles, with the majority resulting in vehicle damage rather than serious injuries.

Police reported that the incidents occurred between Tuesday and Sunday, with 47 accidents in Malé and seven on the Sinamalé Bridge. The highest number of accidents was registered on Monday with 13 cases, followed by 12 on Tuesday.
Three of the accidents were categorised as serious, while the remaining 51 were considered minor. A total of eight individuals sustained injuries, and 43 vehicles were damaged in the incidents.
Most accidents occurred during daylight hours. Police recorded 43 incidents during the day and 11 at night. Collisions involving motorcycles and cars were the most common, with 15 such cases reported. Thirteen additional incidents involved motorcycles.
Police also noted the continued risk of severe road accidents. A young man was killed in a collision between two motorcycles in Hulhumalé Phase II on Monday, underscoring ongoing concerns about road safety.
