The Ministry of Education has announced that it has received over 5,700 enrolment forms for Grade 1 for the upcoming academic year.
Enrolment for Grade 1 for the academic year, which begins on April 6, was opened on August 15 last year. As in previous years, the highest number of forms came from the Malé area.
Ali Mufeed, who is in charge of School Administration at the Ministry of Education, confirmed during an appearance on state media PSM that over 5,700 students have been enrolled for Grade 1. Mufeed further stated that more than 2,000 of these enrolments are from schools in the Malé area.
In previous years, Grade 1 slots were reserved for students who turned seven before January 1 of the academic year. However, when the academic year start date was moved to August, students who turned seven by the end of December were enrolled in Grade 1 for the past two years.
Under new changes introduced by the current administration, the 2024 academic year concluded in February of this year.
