Over MVR 18 Million to be Spent For Election Officials’ Allowances

The Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) is in the final stages of disbursing allowances to officials who served at polling stations during the presidential election and is set to be completed by the end of this week, according to ECM.

During the course of the presidential election, approximately 5,500 officials were deployed across polling stations for both the first and second rounds of voting and over MVR 18 Million will be spent on payroll, as confirmed by ECM Vice Chairman Ismail Habeeb.

As of now, ECM has successfully distributed allowances to some trainers, coordinators, liaison officers, officials, and reserve officials who were part of the team during the first round of voting that took place on the 9th of last month. The remaining allowances are currently in the process of being prepared for disbursement.

For officials who served at polling stations, the allowances vary. The head of a polling station is entitled to MVR 1,500, while the assistant to the head of the polling station will receive MVR 1,200. Polling station officials will be granted MVR 1,000, and reserve officials will be allocated MVR 500.

Notably, a budget of MVR 134 million covered the expenses for both rounds of the presidential election, with 574 ballot boxes used in the first round and 586 in the second.
