Parliament Approves Members for ECM and ACC

The Parliament has approved President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nominees for leadership positions at the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On 26 January, President Muizzu nominated Mohamed Zahid as Chairman and Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed as Vice Chairman of the ECM. He also appointed Ahmed Nashid as Vice President of the ACC.

Today, the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions endorsed all three nominees, clearing the way for their appointments. The approvals were done for each committee separately.
Background of the Appointees
- Mohamed Zahid – Former Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) until his dismissal in 2020. He previously served as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Gender.
- Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed – Former Secretary-General at the ECM and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Ahmed Nashid – Former Assistant Commissioner of Police and Police Board member.
With parliamentary approval secured, the newly appointed members are set to assume their respective roles.
