Parliament Opens for Public Opinion for Amendments to Tourism Act

The Maldivian parliament invited public opinion today for the amendments proposed by the government for the Tourism Act.

The amendments to the Act were submitted to Parliament on behalf of the government by Ahmed Riyaz, MP for Thimarafushi and member of the People’s National Congress (PNC). The bill proposes several changes aimed at improving the regulation and development of the Maldives’ tourism sector.

The Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs is currently researching the bill.

The parliament said the public can submit their recommendations and opinions regarding the bill until Monday, March 17, before 12:00 pm, either through their email economic.affairs_committee@majilis.gov.mv, or via letters addressed to the parliament. 

The bill aims to grant the President authority over tourism development and introduces regulations for the temporary closure of tourist establishments undergoing upgrades or redevelopment. It also outlines the establishment and management of a Tourism Fund.
