Parliament Should Be a Place for Accountability, Cooperation with the Government: Shiyam

The parliament has a duty to co-operate with the government alongside keeping the administration accountable, said Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam .

Speaking during the president’s official visit with residents of Naifaru island, Minister Shiyam emphasized the significance of this accountability in serving the interests of the public and fostering the development warranted by the populace.

Simultaneously, the minister highlighted the importance of collaboration between elected representatives and the government in effectively carrying out the administration’s duties.

Highlighting the urgency of legislative action, Minister Shiyam urged swift passage of bills necessary for implementing the government’s manifesto. He reiterated that in established societies, the principles of accountability and cooperation are fundamental to effective governance.

The minister’s remarks were notably critical of the actions of the opposition-led parliament, which he accused of unduly delaying the approval of the President’s Cabinet appointments. Minister Shiyam remarks follow the halted approval of three ministers in the cabinet of Mohammed Muizzu.

Amidst these challenges, Minister Shiyam called upon citizens to support the establishment of a cooperative parliament in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
