Parliament’s Third Term Set to Begin on October
Parliament has announced that the third term of this year will commence on 7 October.
At the conclusion of the third extraordinary sitting of the second parliamentary session yesterday, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla confirmed that all tasks proposed by 50 members for completion during these sittings had been accomplished.
These tasks included the appointment of a Prosecutor General and the passing of an amendment bill to the Companies Act.
The bill was successfully passed, and Abbas Shareef, the Legal Secretary of the President’s Office, was confirmed as the new Prosecutor General.
As Speaker, Abdul Raheem Abdulla has the authority to schedule parliamentary sessions. He has scheduled the first session of the third term for 7 October.
The second parliamentary session concluded and went on recess on 22 August, having completed 82 per cent of its scheduled work, according to parliamentary announcements at the time.
