The Addu City Council has unveiled the permanent list of recipients for land plots in a move aimed at addressing the long-standing demand for land allocation within the city.
The Council has chosen to allocate a total of 1,000 land plots across different locations, including Hithadhoo, Feydhoo, Meedhoo, and Hulhudhoo. Among the 4,160 applications submitted for land plots in Addu, 4,052 have met the eligibility criteria.
These land plots will be allocated in two phases. The initial phase comprises the allocation of 500 plots from Hithadhoo, 300 from Feydhoo, and 100 each from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.
The council is to allocate land to other individuals on the list as soon as the land use plan and land survey for additional neighborhoods are concluded.
With the target set for June 2024, the council aims to provide land to all recipients on the list.
Administrative procedures for the allocation of the first 1,000 plots in the initial phase are anticipated to be completed by November, with the land officially transferred to the recipients by the end of December.
Remarkably, this marks the first time in over two decades that land plots are being allocated in Addu.
