The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has announced that individuals who are dissatisfied with the progress of a criminal case investigation now have the option to access all prosecutor’s office services online in order to submit complaints.

In a statement, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem articulated that the objective behind this initiative is to elevate the provision of their services into a more accessible and efficient public service. Emphasising transparency within the judicial system, Shameem outlined the convenience afforded to both users and staff through the online platform.

According to Shameem, complainants can now utilise the PGO’s online portal to submit complaints, with the system streamlining the process by automatically inputting common form details. However, it’s required that complainants provide a detailed explanation of their cases and upload pertinent documents submitted to the investigating agency to confirm case filing.

Once a complaint is lodged, Shameem elucidates that it is promptly directed to the assigned prosecutor. Following a thorough review, the prosecutor establishes an estimated response timeline, with complainants receiving notifications via text message regarding the progress. This includes alerts upon the readiness of responses.

Looking ahead, Shameem disclosed plans to enable individuals who correspond via traditional mail to track the progress of their communications. Additionally, ongoing efforts are aimed at automating procedures such as criminal record clearance and providing victims with online access to track case developments, eliminating the necessity for physical visits to the office.

The PGO has also unveiled a dedicated website for cases, incorporating a comprehensive database of all criminal laws. This move further underscores the PGO’s commitment to evolving into a premium public service provider.
