The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef and UNDP Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia. The agreement forms part of a wider strategic approach, with the Prosecutor General’s Office describing it as a positive step for the Witness and Victim Support Unit, which provides crucial assistance to state witnesses and victims of abuse.
As part of the Prosecutor General’s Office’s five-year Strategic Action Plan, the initiative includes measures to improve staff wellbeing, foster a positive work environment, and elevate the quality of their work. By focusing on the mental health of employees, the office aims to cultivate a caring culture within the criminal justice system, ultimately improving the quality of services provided.
The initiative is designed to support staff in dealing with the sensitive nature of their roles, equipping them with the psychological resilience needed to handle the challenges of legal work. Gaveglia emphasised the importance of this collaboration, stating that the investment in staff wellbeing is an important step in strengthening the justice system. He highlighted that the partnership exemplifies a collective effort to advance the quality of the institution.
