Physical works have commenced on the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project, which aims to modernise the road and expand it to four lanes.
The project, valued at MVR 144.5 million, was contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) by the Ministry of Construction on 9 April. It is scheduled for completion within one year and three months.

A ceremony was held on Thursday to inaugurate the commencement of works, attended by Construction Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib. Ahead of the launch, a section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu between Republic Square and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) was closed off last Tuesday.
Under the project, MTCC will develop 830 metres of road with an asphalt base and 737 metres of sheet piling. The company will also install a stormwater drainage system designed to reduce flooding during heavy rainfall, alongside a dedicated drainage service line. Additional works include the construction of a pedestrian walkway, installation of streetlights, and placement of road signs.
Several areas of Malé have already undergone road development projects, resulting in asphalt surfacing, while other parts remain paved with stones. The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was initiated last year to improve traffic conditions, but concerns have since been raised over potholes along the road, which continue to pose safety risks for both motorists and pedestrians.
