Plans Underway to Open Maldivian Embassy in Italy, Says Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that plans are underway to open a Maldivian Embassy in Italy, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening international relations.
The announcement was made during the Republic Day ceremony in the Maldives. In his address, President Muizzu highlighted the government’s aim to foster robust bilateral ties with nations around the globe. Establishing a new embassy in Italy is a key part of this diplomatic expansion, with the necessary authorisation now in place. Currently, the Maldives maintains 16 embassies and high commissions worldwide.
Italy is among the Maldives’ top five tourism markets, with 116,195 Italian tourists visiting the islands so far this year. This strong tourism link further underscores the significance of closer diplomatic relations between the two nations.
