The deadline for filing complaints regarding the membership registry of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has been extended.

Allegations have emerged that a substantial number of individuals were added to the party’s registry using fraudulent forms in an attempt to reach the target of 75,000 members. These concerns arose after the party submitted the forms to the Elections Commission (EC) following its membership expansion campaign.

The extension comes after the EC revealed that a significant portion of the complaints received during the initial submission period were related to the PNC. The EC reported receiving approximately 700 complaints, with 63% concerning the PNC’s membership registry.

The complaint submission period was initially opened by the PNC on 13 January in response to public concerns. The original deadline expired on Monday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PNC confirmed that President Mohamed Muizzu had instructed the party’s leadership to verify the accuracy of the membership registry and enhance its maintenance within the party’s administrative structure.

The PNC has now invited individuals wishing to file complaints regarding their inclusion in the party’s membership registry, as published by the EC, to do so before 3 pm on 13 April. Complaints can be submitted at the PNC headquarters or through steering committees across the islands.

The party assured that all complaints will be reviewed and appropriate action will be taken where necessary.
