People’s National Congress (PNC) Chairperson Abdul Raheemhas announced its decision to abstain from contesting in the constituencies represented by key leaders from the Maldives Democratic Alliance (MDA), Jumhooree Party (JP), and Maldives National Party (MNP) in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

These constituencies include those held by Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, Qasim Ibrahim, and Mohamed Nazim, respectively.

Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated, “We have resolved not to partake in the primary for the Dangethi constituency, where the Maldives National Party (MNP) leader, retired Colonel Mohamed Nazim, is contesting. This decision stems from our reverence for the party leader.”

In addition to Nazim, the PNC has yielded seats in deference to two other leaders for analogous reasons, he disclosed.

The PNC will refrain from contesting in the Dh. Meedhoo constituency, as the incumbent MP and leader of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, will pursue re-election.

Similarly, the PNC will abstain from voting in the Maamigili constituency, where the incumbent MP and leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP), Gasim Ibrahim, is seeking re-election.

Abdul Raheem conveyed that no other party will partake in the PPM-PNC parliamentary primary scheduled for Saturday. He further stated that the parties retain the option to contest in any constituency.

The PNC collaborated with the MNP and MDA during the second round of the presidential election in September.
