Former Maldivian President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s established political entity, the People’s National Front (PNF), has officially submitted more than 3,500 forms to the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM).

The decision to form the PNF was made less than a week after the PPM/PNC coalition assumed power, prompting Yameen to step down as the coalition’s leader to focus on launching a new political party.

Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, tasked with spearheading the formation of the PNF, revealed that the party office has received over 3,000 forms. However, he clarified that the initial submission to the ECM would consist of 3,500 to 4,000 forms, which are now prepared for submission.

Maleeh Jamal expressed caution about admitting too many members at once, stating that a large influx could potentially delay the verification process. The legal requirement for a political party to register in the Maldives is 3,000 members.

The ECM had granted permission for the formation of the PNF on the 29th of last month, with Maleeh pledging to submit members for registration within 24 hours. However, 20 days have passed since then.
