Police have arrested a 53-year-old man accused of breaking into a shop in Malé by removing tin roof tiles before entering the property.
According to the Criminal Court’s remand order, the suspect is alleged to have broken into Bazaar Trading, also known locally as Alif Atoll shop, on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. He is facing charges of theft, property damage and trespassing.
The arrest warrant states that the man removed parts of the shop’s roof to gain entry and was later captured on CCTV carrying stolen goods in a sack. Court documents show that he made remarks during the remand hearing suggesting he believed he would be arrested regardless of his statement. The court noted that remand decisions are determined by the evidence presented.
The suspect has been remanded in custody for 10 days. Records indicate that he has previously been implicated in other burglary cases.
