The Maldives Police Service has begun collecting information on minors found outside without a parent or guardian after 22:00hrs on B. Eydhafushi.
The initiative, which began yesterday, is being conducted in collaboration with relevant authorities to enhance community safety and protect children from engaging in unlawful activities.
According to police, the aim is not only to prevent juvenile offences but also to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of young offenders into society through coordinated efforts with other institutions.
Deputy of the Eydhafushi Island Council, Ali Shafeeq, stated that local authorities have observed school students loitering on the streets late at night, sometimes engaging in inappropriate behaviour. He said the current efforts are being implemented in line with the Children’s Rights Act, with the goal of preventing minors from being exposed to criminal influences during late hours.
As part of the initiative, parents or guardians of any minors found outdoors during restricted hours will be called in for questioning by the relevant authorities.
