Police Confirm 16 Submissions to Binveriya Complaints Portal
The Maldives Police Service has confirmed receiving information from 16 individuals through the designated portal established to assist its investigation into alleged corruption linked to the Binveriya social housing scheme.
The portal, launched on 21 December, was created following allegations against the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and its former Managing Director, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed. The claims involve the issuance of land to individuals not included in the original list of eligible recipients.
Of the 16 submissions received, four individuals have provided documents directly related to the allegations, according to the police. They reiterated that the portal remains open for further contributions from the public. Information can be submitted anonymously or with contact details for those willing to assist investigators further.
Among those alleged to have received land irregularly is Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and Fazul’s elder brother. Credible reports received by Sun Online indicate that boundary walls have already been constructed on the property allocated to Fazeel.
In addition to the police investigation, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is also probing the case.
Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed resigned shortly after the police and ACC began their investigations, stating his decision was motivated by a desire to cooperate with the authorities.
