Police Deployed for Presidential Election Security

Police personnel have commenced their deployment to the islands as part of security measures for the upcoming Presidential election scheduled for September 9, 2023.

The deployment process began last night, and officers are set to depart for the Southern provinces tomorrow.
Authorities have outlined that the police presence will span across all islands of Maldives to guarantee security during the crucial presidential election.
In addition to the island coverage, police units have also been stationed in islands to uphold security for the electoral process. Each region has been assigned a dedicated police team to facilitate swift reinforcement to any island in case of emergent requirements.
To ensure the security of the presidential election, police officers are equipped with the training mandated by the Police Act. Furthermore, pertinent details pertaining to the election have been communicated to the deployed officers.
Overseeing the operation is Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shakir, who has been appointed as the commander. Superintendent of Police Ahmed Muslim assumes the role of deputy commander.
